Project Update: Sisters in Visakhapatnam India and COVID-19

As we recently heard from news reports, India’s 1.3 billion people have been told to stay at home during a nationwide 21-day shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This news directly affects the Sisters working in Visakhapatnam, India, where funds are being raised to offer free educational and vocational training to prepare young women for careers so they can escape poverty.  As you may recall, funds from a recent Sisters Rising Worldwide fundraiser went towards the purchase of a van to help transport women to their internships to avoid human trafficking.

We just got word from the Sisters in Visakhapatnam that they are keeping current students with them during the course of the 21-day shutdown.  “We couldn’t send the students to their own house because of a food problem at their place,” wrote Sister Anitha. “By God’s grace we all are keeping well.”

Now more than ever the Sisters need our help.  If you haven’t done so already, please make a donation to their project. In addition, we ask that you keep the Sisters and their students in your prayers during this challenging time.
